Echoes from far lands, flashes of colors and contrasts, asymmetries and oversize proportions, recycle and innovation. Thus the young students of Accademia del Lusso interpret the fashion of tomorrow in their graduate fashion show 2019.
The journey of a collection can start from very far away, in terms of time and space. For the final collection created by the students of ACCADEMIA DEL LUSSO, presented last week at Fabbrica Orobia in Milan, the starting point is William Morris, eclectic artist who, in the mid-19th century, transformed the concept of craftsmanship by raising it at the level of everyday-art and, actually, opening the road to modern design.

Don’t imagine intricate floral patterns or the sinuous lines of Art Nouveau, because William Morris is considered by the students of Accademia del Lusso more an “ideal father” than as a real source of inspiration. As a father, he dispences advices and motivates the students to venture in the meanders of experimentation and to rediscover their roots through an attentive and creative craftsmanship.

eth|n|ikon is essentially an accurate artisanal work applied to contemporary conceptuality and aesthetic sense. Handicraft, intended properly as manual work, embraces the traditional techniques of every population and culture, but especially the ethical values of sustainability.

The final collection realized by the 56 students of the courses of Fashion Design and Accessories & Footwear Design has a strong ecological imprint and is developed around four micro-themes. The most sporty lines are combined to the cultural meltin’ pot typical of big metropolis, the distinctions of gender are blended in a single entity that cancels the distances and the general mood becomes relaxed, never obsessed by the fake perfection too often seen on catwalks.

The absolute protagonists of this graduate collection are the fabrics, restored, recycled or ecological. Through textile experimentation, the students create new interesting fabrics, hand-painted and dyed with curcuma and madder using the shibori techniques or manipulated to give life to close drapings and textural woven surfaces.

Fabrics are embroidered and not finished, are turned into tridimensional floral textures, recalls natural elements or are torn to shreds and then re-assembled with a decidedly modern patchwork technique or used as frayed decorations.

There are impalpable fabrics light as water, shining padded nylon and maxi-sequins, structured paper tissues, feathers on raw jute and chunky knits, asymmetrical pleats and denim flounces, post-it effect armours, ethnic embroideries and Kawaii-style hearts on lurex.

Everything
is made more attractive by triumphant shades of acid and spicy colors
combined to neutral and dark tones, in a palette that plays with
contrasts in a very effective way.
