ISTITUTO EUROPEO DI DESIGN with its Fashion School in Rome promotes the return to artisanal techniques and manual skills. “Touch Me”, the final graduate collection presented at Altaroma last 5th July, is an invitation to concretely feel fashion with all our senses, through touching fabrics, looking colors and prints, deeply living it at 360°.
The beauty of craftsmanship is the close relationship established between the creator and the object created. But also between this latter and who wears it. That’s the sense of the collective collection “Touch Me”, with which IED Fashion School Rome showcased the graduate projects of its most talented students of the triennial courses of Fashion Design and Jewelry Design.

The 18 new fashion designers and 4 jewelry designers brought on the prestigious catwalk of ALTAROMA, their capsule collections through which demonstrates all their great technical skills and stylistic tastes. An eclectic mix and match of moods, colors, textures, but all sharing the same love for high quality and sartorial techinques hybrized with new technologies. Tradition and innovation which can peacefully live together.

With a special eye on sustainability. IED in fact, is a fashion school among the most attentive to the dynamic of sustainability and is pursuing important projects in this sense. During Altaroma, the school presented also the capsule collection “Parcae”, realized by the fashion design students Andrea Luisa Berger and Cecilia Fefè (IED Rome) with the fashion styling student Rom Uzan (IED Florence), part of the project “The Time is Now!” made in collaboration with Consorzio Italiano Implementazione Detox and Greenpeace Italia and already seen during Pitti Immagine Uomo 96. A sustainable collection inspired by the myths and the philosophy of Ancient Greece, developed through the study of pure geometry, the perfect balance of volumes, the subtle movement given by folds and drapes.

Besides of this interesting project, the collection I’ve seen last week was a concentrate of different suggestions. I was really impressed by the jewelry creations by Valentina Zottoli, Sara Terenzi, Giulia Ares and Xehan Wang, that wear the female body with grace and originality.

In the fashion show many colors were dark and strong, declined in many variants and inspirations. Andrea Luisa Berger with the capsule collections “TĀ” plays with volumes and prints, making very modern ethnic elements and decorations. Silvia Peroni, with her “Labirith” collection, creates chaotic textures manipulating fabrics and recalling grey clouds in a storm.

Soft movements of drapes on organza and tulle also for the sophisticated silhouettes created by Chiara Pagliaroli and her “Altera” capsule collection. Marta Pedrazzi, with the collection “L’archetipo del volo” traces elegant trajectories into the patchworks of her coats and uses feathers to give a refined touch to her knitwear pieces.

Cecilia Fefè uses only black for the collection “Void”, playing with asymmetries and the transparencies or shining textures of the fabric to give movement to her outfits. The cocktail dresses by Federica Pochini, with her “Room Club*”, are a celebration of fashion glamour revisited in a very contemporary and delicious way.

Maria Adele Pellicelli and Lorenzo Formichetti presented their very strong collection “R1RN”, imprisoning their models with tribal masks and drawstrings that close the nylon surfaces. Elisa Rossi gives a burst of energy to the show with her collection “Sinthese”, which mixes asymmetries, neon colors, opalescent effects and vinyl to the most traditional male fabrics with a surprising result.

Martina Micuccio, with her “Marina”, lightens the mood with doll-like details, nice colores and prints and a very interesting reinterpretation of fashion history shapes. Claudia Urbano and Marco Primo instead, with their “Sense 5.0” brings on catwalk a very powerful woman, self-confident and sensual with her total-white garments lighten-up by flashy accessories.

Eleonora Barcaroli, through the project “Innefable Qualité”, thinks about a sophisticated woman rich of charme, who loves to be noticed for her elegant taste wearing sculptural shapes and shining fabrics.

On catwalk also the accessories realized by Claudia Mariani, who with the collection “Skin Tale” won the category for accessories at CNA Federmoda‘s “XXIX Concorso Nazionale Professione Moda Giovani Stilisti”, and by Ilaria Dessi, who presented her collection “1PNKT” of very aggressive leather bags and bold trainers colored by cords, ribbons and tartan details.
